Delaware Valley defensive end Michael Nobile and Tufts wide receiver Phil Lutz lead the D3football.com 2022 All-Region 1 team. Nobile was named Region 1 Defensive Player of the Year, while Lutz was named the Region 1 Offensive Player of the Year.
Gallaudet coach Chuck Goldstein, who led the Bison to the NCAA playoffs for the second time in the history of the program, is the Region 1 Coach of the Year.

NCAA Division III realigned Division III football into six regions in 2021. Region 1 includes the Commonwealth Coast Conference, Eastern Collegiate Football Conference, Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, Middle Atlantic Conference, New England Small College Athletic Conference, New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference.
Nobile, a senior from Brick, New Jersey, was named First Team All-Region for the third time and Defensive Player of the Year for the second time. He was the East Region Defensive Player of the Year in 2019. Nobile led the Aggies with 14½ sacks and added 19½ tackles for loss, 15 hurries and three forced fumbles to help lead Delaware Valley to the national quarterfinals. Nobile finished with 63 tackles, 27 solo.
Lutz, a senior from North Caldwell, New Jersey, caught 78 passes for 1,221 yards and 14 touchdowns in the Jumbos’ nine-game season. That included six touchdown catches in the team’s season finale, a 65-34 win against Middlebury, a team which finished 7-2 on the season.
The teams, selected in balloting by Region 1 sports information directors and D3football.com staff, were chosen from 199 nominations by full Division III member schools. A total of 79 players were chosen. Players nominated for All-Region are eligible to be considered for D3football.com All-America honors, which will be announced the evening of Dec. 16, in D3football.com’s pregame coverage for Stagg Bowl XLIX.
