North Central quarterback Luke Lehnen and teammate, defensive tackle John Sullivan, lead the D3football.com 2024 All-Region 5 team. Sullivan was named Region 5 Defensive Player of the Year, while Lehnen was named the Region 5 Offensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row.

North Central coach Brad Spencer, who has led the Cardinals to a 12-0 record and another trip to the Division III national quarterfinals, is the Region 5 Coach of the Year. It’s his first selection as a D3football.com regional Coach of the Year.

NCAA Division III realigned Division III football into six regions in 2021. Region 5 includes the American Rivers Conference, the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, the Midwest Conference and the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

Lehnen, a senior from Chatham, Illinois, is a first-team All-Region selection for the second time in his football career. He has completed 152 of 220 passes for 2,589 yards and 33 touchdowns against five interceptions. In addition, Lehnen has run for 845 yards and 13 touchdowns on 68 carries in 2024, an average of 12.4 yards per carry. Lehnen was also a second-team D3baseball.com All-Region selection as an outfielder for the Cardinals in 2021 and a third-team D3baseball.com All-Region selection in 2024.

Sullivan, a junior from Lake Villa, Illinois, is an All-Region selection for the first time. He has recorded 13½ tackles for loss, six quarterback hurries and five sacks for the Cardinals this season. He has 50 total tackles, 28 of them solo, as well as a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

The teams, selected in balloting by Region 5 sports information directors and D3football.com staff, were chosen from 178 nominations by full Division III member schools. A total of 79 players were chosen. Players nominated for All-Region are eligible to be considered for D3football.com All-America honors, which will be announced Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025.
