JHU's Schuermann Named Second Team AP All-American

2022 NCAA Division III AP All-America Team

BALTIMORE, MD –- Johns Hopkins junior defensive end Luke Schuermann was named to the 2022 Associated Press (AP) Division III All-America Football Team it was announced today.  Schuermann, who landed a spot on the second team, is making his second straight appearance on the AP All-America Team after grabbing first team honors in 2021.
 
Schuermann posted 70 tackles and set Johns Hopkins single-season records with 14 sacks and 26.5 tackles for losses this season; he currently ranks fourth in the nation in tackles for loss per game (2.4) and sixth in sacks per game (1.27) while his 70 tackles ranked second on the team.  In two seasons, Schuermann now has 116 tackles, including 47 for losses and 25 sacks (Schuermann's freshman year (2020) was canceled due to the COVID pandemic).
 
With his selection, Schuermann is the first Johns Hopkins player to twice be named to the AP All-America Team and he has now accumulated three All-America honors in his career as he was also a First Team D3football.com All-American in 2021.  In addition, he earned First Team All-Centennial Conference in 2021 and 2022 and was the Centennial's Defensive Player of the Year in both of those seasons as well.  D3football.com also named him the Region 2 Defensive Player of the Year in 2021 and he has twice landed First Team D3football.com All-Region honors.
 
In addition to his exploits on the field, Schuermann was also a First Team College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-American in 2021 and has twice earned Academic All-District honors.  He is majoring in mechanical engineering and carries a 3.63 cumulative grade point average.
