William Paterson Suffers 17-7 Loss to Kean

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson football team (2-7, 1-5 NJAC) suffered a 17-7 loss to visiting Kean (3-6, 2-4 NJAC) Nov. 8 at Wightman Stadium.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • A missed Cougar field-goal attempt as time expired kept the game scoreless going into halftime.
  • Kean was successful on a 42-yard attempt with 5:26 to play in the third quarter, taking a 3-0 lead.
  • The Cougars found the end zone with a seven-yard carry, making it a 10-0 advantage 48 seconds into the fourth.
  • The Pioneers answered during their next possession, using a 13-yard completion by sophomore quarterback Nigel Jennings to freshman wide receiver Hassan Moore for a touchdown with 9:32 remaining. Senior Matt Davidson kicked the PAT to cut the margin to 10-7.
  • Kean capitalized on an interception deep in WP territory, eventually turning it into a one-yard rushing touchdown and a 17-7 advantage with 3:33 on the clock.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Jennings went 6-for-21 for 85 yards and a touchdown.
  • Sophomore running back Ray'Mir Johnson carried 14 times for 68 yards, and Moore caught four passes for 66 yards and a score.
  • Junior linebacker Gavin Rembert made a career-high 17 tackles (seven solo, 3.5 TFL, 2.0 sacks).
  • Senior defensive back Anthony Macera added an interception to his 13 stops (seven solo, 1.0 TFL), while senior linebacker Jayce Harmon posted 12 tackles (two solo, 0.5 TFL) and an interception.

 

UP NEXT:

  • William Paterson will wrap up is season Saturday, Nov. 15, celebrating Senior Day prior to a 1:00 p.m. home kickoff against Montclair State.
