The Tigers of Hampden-Sydney improved to 2-0, while Plymouth State got a Hail Mary at the end of regulation to tie the game before winning in OT and Bates rallied from a 16-point fourth-quarter deficit to win. More in the Week 2 national recap.

Carter Sido passed for a career-high 285 yards and four touchdowns, wide receiver Jordan Jackson had a game-high and career-high 113 yards receiving and one touchdown, and wide receiver Manning Lasso added 91 yards receiving and one touchdown, as Hampden-Sydney took a thrilling 38-31 non-conference football win from Washington & Jefferson. Hampden-Sydney scored three third quarter touchdowns to take a 38-24 lead and held on as Cam Jackson forced an incomplete pass on the final play of the game on a W&J pass to the end zone.

Jacob Morris hauled in a 52-yard Hail Mary with one second remaining in regulation, and Gregory Walker walked into the end zone for the game-winning two-point conversion in overtime as Plymouth State outlasted Worcester State 47-46, in the MASCAC opener for both teams. The Lancers appeared ready to escape with a win as PSU faced fourth-and-15 from its own 48-yard line with just 13 seconds left and no timeouts. Quarterback Braden Lynn scrambled and launched the ball into the end zone, where Morris outleapt four defenders for the score. The extra point sent the game into overtime tied at 39-39. After Worcester State scored on its possession in OT, Lynn capped a clutch drive by scrambling in from 12 yards out to make it 46-45. Head coach Paul Castonia rolled the dice, opting to go for the win, and Lynn pitched to Walker, who scored untouched to seal the thrilling win.

Jack Perry threw three touchdown passes and Marcos Ruiz kicked a 24-yard field goal to win the game as Bates rallied from 16 points down to defeat Amherst 26-23 in double overtime. Trailing 23-7 through three quarters, the Bobcats (1-0) flipped the script in the fourth quarter, scoring 16 unanswered points to force the extra session. Neither team scored in the first overtime, and the Bates defense shut down the Mammoths (0-1) to begin the second OT. Needing any sort of score to win the game and starting at the Amherst 25, junior captain Ryan Lynskey ran the ball 9 yards to start the second OT possession for Bates. Jack Morrall picked up the first down with a 3-yard plunge to the 14. On second down, Sergio Beltran rushed for 4 yards down to the Mammoth 10. He got the ball 3 yards closer on the next play to the seven, setting up Ruiz for the game-winning kick. Ruiz split the uprights, setting off a wild celebration at Garcelon Field. The Bobcats won in front of a packed house filled with six decades worth of Bates football players, as the program is celebrating 150 years since the first game in team history.

Colby got its NESCAC season off on the right foot and defeated Trinity (Conn.) 13-6, registering its first win against the Bantams since 1995. Colby trailed 6-0 at the half but got a short pick-six from defensive tackle Montrail Holmes to take a 7-6 lead, and added a 74-yard touchdown drive to extend that lead to 13-6. After pinning the Bantams on their own 8, the Mules defense got back-to-back sacks by Cooper Bunnell and Jack Mullen before safety Christopher Milmoe got an interception, Colby's fourth of the afternoon.

Case Western Reserve finally got to finish a game, and even that required a second location as the Spartans and Wabash were delayed by lightning so long that the game had to be moved to Crawfordsville High School, which has lights. Wabash won 38-28. Cole Dickerson, Xavier Tyler and Brand Campbell each had more than 65 yards and ran for a touchdown, while Campbell was 19-for-30 for 208 yards and two TDs to lead the Little Giants to the win. Case fell to 0-1-1 overall with the loss.

After losing last week's season opener, Grinnell got defensive - literally - in Saturday's home battle against Beloit. The Pioneers posted their first shutout since 2018, and the first in league play since 2009, with a 24-0 blanking of the Buccaneers in steamy and sticky conditions. Grinnell's defense posted eight sacks in the contest, one short of the school record. The Pioneer "D" was miserly throughout, limiting the visitors to a mere 30 yards of total offense. Meanwhile, the Pioneer offense racked up 249 yards.

The battle of two top running backs in Division III wasn't close in the running yards department, but it didn't matter for Coast Guard, as the Bears defeated Curry 34-24. Harrison Hensley, who ran for more than 300 yards for Coast Guard in Week 1, went for just 85 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries, but it was enough for the win. On the other side, Montie Quinn was a workhorse for Curry, going for 39 carries and 253 yards.

Calvin played football on its campus for the first time and the Knights had a great day as they defeated Concordia (Wis.) 34-7. The second-year program played its first year of games at an area high school in 2024 before lining up this year's schedule at Calvin Soccer Stadium. Sophomore running back Hunter Hogan was the catalyst in the Calvin offense as he rushed for a Calvin single-game record 215 yards and two touchdowns. Hogan was a workhorse as he carried the ball 34 times while netting his second consecutive game of 100 rushing yards or more.

One week after knocking off crosstown rival Springfield, Western New England found itself on the wrong end of the scoreboard as Salve Regina defeated the Golden Bears 34-28 in overtime. Thomas Fallon threw four touchdown passes as part of an 11-for-24 day, including a 5-yarder to Jacoby Smith in overtime to clinch the win. Salve held the ball for less than 20 minutes and took just 53 offensive snaps on the day, but picked off two passes in the victory.

Sean O'Shea, making his first career start, ran for 157 yards and a pair of touchdowns while the Westminster (Pa.) defense intercepted three passes in Saturday's 27-7 victory at Franklin & Marshall. O'Shea capped a five-play, 93-yard drive with a 73-yard touchdown run to give Westminster (1-1) a 17-0 lead five minutes before halftime. His 2-yard rushing score with just under two minutes to go in the third ended an 11-play, 80-yard drive that pushed the Titans' lead to 27-0. O'Shea completed 8-of-15 passes for 78 yards and matched his career high with 15 rushes. He completed passes to five different receivers. Junior tight end Brock Covell hauled in three passes for 29 yards.

Isaiah Simmons capped a 90-yard drive with a 4-yard touchdown run with 2:13 left and Brockport forced a fourth down incompletion near midfield to give the Golden Eagles a 14-10 win vs. Hobart. Simmons' game-winning touchdown was his second of the game, and he came back out to run three times for 21 yards to move the chains and give his team a chance to run out the clock. Simmons finished with 26 carries for 156 yards and the two scores. Brockport limited Hobart to 214 yards of total offense.

Roanoke forced six turnovers and improved to 2-0, getting its first win against a Division III opponent by defeating Greensboro 32-22. Facing a 15-11 halftime deficit, RC scored the next 21 points to take control of the game. The Maroon defense sealed the win with a stop after Greensboro had a first and goal at the 2-yard line with just over a minute remaining, keeping the Pride out of the end zone on four straight plays. Tyson Miller ran for 97 yards and a touchdown in the win.

Lewis & Clark improved to 2-0 on the season and put up a bunch of points for the second time in two games under head coach Brett Elliott as the Pioneers defeated George Fox 38-10. L&C's two wins to open the season are non-conference games against Northwest Conference opponents. Dashiell Weaver, who came to L&C after redshirting last year at Fresno State, completed 19 of 25 passes for 268 yards and two touchdowns, while Jordan Lahusky ripped off an 80-yard TD run on the way to a nine-carry, 97-yard day. Charlie Murrin had a tackle for loss and recovered two fumbles from his linebacker spot for the Pioneers defense.

Castleton took home the Maple Sap Bucket as the Spartans defeated in-state rival Norwich 30-8. The game features the two Division III schools in Vermont who are allowed to play non-conference games. Castleton ran for 198 yards, with Lou Guillotte scoring two touchdowns on the ground.
